Hartford, CT (PRWeb) April 4, 2007 -- MERG (Microenterprise Resource Group) brings microenterprises and legislators together at their annual event beginning on April 30 with a display in the lower concourse and culminating at a reception on May 2 in the Old Judiciary Room, 3rd Floor of the Connecticut State Capitol Building. This event recognizes the importance, accomplishments and economic contributions of small business owners from around the state.
Each member of the General Assembly will receive a handcrafted invitation to this event designed by JK Designs of Cromwell. "We were thrilled for a chance to design the invitations sent to the entire legislative body. It's exciting to be able to share our work with such a wide audience," Karen Gumkowski, partner of JK Designs said.
Last year over 400 microenterprises took advantage of the opportunity to share their business concerns with their peers and legislators. The reception will include display tables of CT made products, such as JK Designs unique greeting cards, chocolates to sample, and services for hire, as well as the caterers who will showcase their talents with samples of their work to taste.
At their display, JK Designs will unveil their new spring card collection, as seen on their newly updated website, www.cardsbyjkdesigns.com. Along with this year's new look, some of their classic favorite designs will also be on hand for viewing. Jean Dunning and Karen Gumkowski, partners of JK Designs, will be available to meet with fellow microbusiness owners and talk with legislators.
Microenterprise, defined as a business with fewer than five employees, is a little-known crucial component of the CT economy. The 277,000 registered microenterprises generate $15.3 billion sales and $430 million in CT State tax revenue annually. Microenterprise also employ 400,000 CT residents, twice as many people as the top 25 employers combined. (www.mergct.org )
Dunning and Gumkowski look forward to the annual event. They hope that this year's reception will have an even greater turn out. "We made so many new contacts. It's a great opportunity to meet other businesses like us, we definitely noticed a growth at JK Designs after our first appearance at the LOB event," Dunning recalled. "We always welcome the opportunity to connect with other businesses."
