Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 29, 2008 -- WeWe Clothing, a new line for children ages 1 to 5, makes its debut in colorful, fun and hip style inspired by ethnic bohemian fashions.
Pronounced "weh-weh" which means "the little ones" in Yoruba, the language of one of the three main tribes of Nigeria, West Africa, the mix-and-match dresses, skirts, tunics, pants and tops for girls and pants and tunics for boys follow a playful yet practical theme while evoking worldly, bohemian panache.
WeWe's creator and designer Folake Kuye says she was inspired to invent the line while trying to outfit her infant daughter.
"There was a lack of fun, ethnic clothing with vibrant colors," she said. "I wanted her to have pieces with a modicum of ethnicity--and that was how WeWe was born."
Kuye, who formerly worked in a law firm and designed adult clothing, conceived the line in January 2008 and completed it in April while her husband, Greg Huntoon, was creating the identity and marketing materials for the company.
Kuye stresses the versatility of the items, as well as the trendiness of the pieces. The signature pieces of the line, the tunics and the dresses, are interchangeable. Some of the fabrics are African prints found only in Nigeria. What sets her line apart is the intricate details and attention she devoted to the embroidery and the trimming when she created these pieces for the little ones.
"The thing about the pieces is that you can wear them in so many different ways," said Kuye. "I am not a conformist when it comes to fashion so I create and play with fabrics. My motto is, 'The sky is the limit. Don't hold back.'"
While she is inspired by her Nigerian background, Kuye says the edgy and unique styles are universal and appealing to all ethnicities.
"We work with colors that compliment all skin tones," she said. "Everyone from every ethnic background has been able to relate to all of the pieces. They are truly unique." Price points in the line range from $15 for an organic T-shirt with soy-based ink to $65 for the "Estella" blouse.
The clothing is currently for sale on the company's Web site, www.weweclothing.com.
