The Samsung Tocco (F480) was launched recently after a Memorial Day delay. This very slim model includes 3G technology HSDPA, a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, face recognition, LED flash and the TouchWiz GUI. The phone includes two back-covers-one is of plain brushed metal while the other has an attached protector for the flip screen with cuts in place for the earpiece and microphone. The Samsung Tocco is very thing at 98.4 x 11.6 mm and only 106 grams. The phone is small enough to fit inside the average wallet's business card holder.
In spite of its compact size, the Samsung Tocco has a 2.8" QVGA touchscreen that is easy to see whether you are indoors or in direct sunlight. The volume rocker doubles as a scroller for going through menu lists, and there are different scrolls speeds based on where you touch on the screen. There are minimal function buttons for the Tocco-menu button, send/end call keys, camera shortcut, shutter button and volume control. You will also find a hold switch on top for locking the controls.
The internal memory of the Samsung Tocco is 223 MB that you can expand up to 8GB using MicroSD. The media player supports a variety of different formats and has Enhanced AAC and WMA with several video formats as well. For those who prefer to listen to the top hits, there is also an FM radio. The phone's battery is usually good for up to 3 hours talk time or 250 hours standby on a 3G network. Since the phone is fairly new, the accuracy of the battery life has not yet been confirmed.
Since the Tocco is a European phone, there were some concerns about its compatibility with other carriers, but it seems to work quite well so far. The camera and flash both work rather quickly which is an improvement over some other models that tend to have a delay once the camera is activated. Its micro size doesn't seem to have a bearing at all on its ability to provide quality service and functionality. The styling is exceptional for those who travel frequently as it will fit some compactly in wallet or purse.
